A spokesperson of K-Electric on Sunday said that efforts were underway to "normalise matters" after several areas of Karachi suffered a lengthy power breakdown starting in the early hours of Sunday.
Reports of power outages started to roll in around the time the residents of Karachi prepared for sehri in the early hours of Sunday, the first day of Ramazan. Hours later, as the afternoon wore on, the issue had still not been resolved.
Among the most affected areas were Model Colony, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir, Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Azizabad, Malir, Landhi and Nazimabad.
The Extra High Tension tripping of a transmission line was behind the breakdown, a K-Electric spokesperson said. He added that efforts were being made to return the affected areas to normality as soon as possible.
"The current power interruption is due to Extra High Tension tripping in Jamshoro 500 KV line," K-Electric wrote on Twitter.
Blackouts in other cities of Sindh
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also took notice of power outages in Hyderabad and Sukkur, ordering Energy Secretary Agha Wasif to communicate with the CEO of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) and the Sukkur Electricity Supply Company (Sesco) to ascertain the reasons behind the blackouts.
The power supply companies had given assurances that loadshedding will not take place during the month of Ramazan, the CM recalled.
Shah added that he had spoken with Water and Power Minister Muhammad Asif and remarked that the ongoing load-shedding is "cruelty towards the people [of Sindh]."

The kesc should be taken to task and handed a crippling fine for not being able to provide electricity around the clock even after so many years of being under the abraaj group. Their excuses mean nothing and should fall on deaf ears.

Generally speaking, private power suppliers tend to very good at it like in Mumbai, New Delhi and other cities there is no power outage, ever. Fantastic.

Its really sad that a country that has nuclear weapons cannot supply electricity and water to its fasting citizens. Atleast ensure uninterrupted power and water supply during Ramazan so people can fast peacefully.

@timetostopthis K-Electric is a private company. What we need to do is to break the monopoly. Unless there is a rival institution who brings a challenge to the monopoly, we will hardly see change.

This has nothing to do with K-Electric, or Nawaz Sharif. I don't feel sorry for the people who are suffering as well. Ask these people, how many of them have 'Kunda' active during the month of Ramzan ? People don't pay taxes, steal electricity, don't pay pills and then expect the system not to trip and take on the whole load. Some of the mosques are running on 'Kunda System' in our country as well.

KE is technically incompetent. All the programs (like Ujala) are useless until you are able to provide the electricity to existing customers. Within a month, we have had at least 5 trip downs.

All this exposes the Government/s and their false promises being made since last two decades, notwithstanding the actual sufferings of the citizens, the government/s will never ever mention failures on their part; rather boast about their achievements to the exclusion of the majority!
Electricity as power and energy is also a core issue that should have been treated with due importance and priority, as it is one of the most important element of progress and prosperity through production of goods and services!
Mid Summer and most importantly holy month of Ramazan are nothing new or contingent, all precautionary measure should have been taken well in advance to avoid or check such failures!
Well, it is all there with all sorts of excuses and fingerpointing!

Apart from internal tussls and political reasons,the users are also to be blamed.
A vast majority do not adopt Fair means to use it. Bills are also not paid in time. The consumption at offices and homes is carelessly done.
A common people never understand that that is his responsibility also to contribute properly for the sake of continuous and fair supply of such facilities equally to all.
