ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s record-setting Test batsman Younis Khan has said that he is happy and satisfied over his decision to retire from international cricket since he managed to achieve what he desired.

Speaking at a farewell reception held here in Islamabad on Thursday night, the legendary cricketer who did the country proud by scoring 10,000 Test runs in his fine career, said that he feels proud for being the top scorer for his country.

“The first run scored in my career was memorable for me and I never looked back after that,” said Younis.

The legendary cricketer was given a warm reception which was organised by Jazz here in a marquee in sector E-9. Several former cricketers attended the event and were all praise for the great Mardan-born right-hander.

Former Test cricketer Zaheer Abbas said that Younis’ batsmanship had a blend of orthodox and modern cricket and was a treat to watch. “He gave respect to the game of cricket and that’s why he earned so much respect from every quarter,” said Zaheer

Former Test off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq and ex-wicketkeeper Moin Khan also spoke on the occasion and lauded the performance of Younis.

“Younis always used his best abilities to serve Pakistan,” said Saqlain.

Former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq said that retirement of Younis is a big loss for Pakistani cricket. “He will be sorely missed,” he said about Younis.

Ex-Test pacer Aaqib Javed also appreciated the services of the great batsman. “Younis is the only cricketer who has quit T20 and Test cricket at his peak and that gesture must be appreciated,” said Aaqib.
