MIRPURKHAS, Aug 3: The director and other representatives of the Nara Canal Area Water Board have been criticized by the farmers organization for their negligence which led to devastation of Badin.
In a joint statement issued here on Sunday, Sindh Agriculture Growers Development Association president Ahmad Khan and Mirpurkhas Sindh Abadgar Board secretary Imtiaz Ali Panhwar said the water board representatives did not maintain required supply of irrigation water at the Jamrao Canal and released it into the Left Bank Outfall Drain which played havoc in Badin district.
They said Rs10 million was provided to the administration of the water board in 2002-2003 for maintenance of the LBOD.
They said Rs6 million was given to a mechanical engineer by former Nara Canal AWB director Agha Aijaz but the amount was not used on maintenance of the drain, resulting in many breaches during rains.
They demanded an inquiry to ascertain where the fund was utilized and fix responsibility for the devastation.
MEDICAL TEAMS: Three mobile medical teams have been formed for villages of the Khan Union Council and dehs 85, 86, 87, 88 and 89.
Mirpurkhas taluka health officer Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Khan will supervise the teams.
This was said by the EDO, health, Dr Fazal Ellahi Yousfani, while speaking at a press conference here on Sunday.
He said each of the team would comprise six doctors, including women medical officers.
The EDO further said sufficient quantity of anti-snake and anti-rabies vaccines was available at the district’s rural health centres.
