Security forces foiled a terror bid on Saturday and seized a large cache of arms and ammunition during a raid in Quetta’s Gahi Khan Chowk area, said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The Frontier Corps (FC) during the raid recovered 503 hand grenades, five improvised explosive devices (IED), a RPG-7, an automatic grenade launcher, a light-machine gun and thousands of rounds of small arms ammunition, said the ISPR statement.

“Timely action on the part of security forces has foiled the nefarious designs of terrorists planning to carry out terror act,” added the statement from the military’s media wing.

The bomb disposal experts were called in to defuse the seized weapons.

Gahi Khan Chowk area is considered to be one of the sensitive areas of Quetta city. In the past, an exchange of fire has taken place between security forces and terrorists in the area.

Security has been beefed up in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan in the aftermath of recent terror acts, including the deadly suicide bombing at Mastung targeting deputy chairman Senate Maulana Ghafoor Hyderi and the killing of 10 labourers in Gwadar.

Four suspected militants killed in Awaran

Security forces killed four suspected militants during an exchange of fire in Balochistan's Awaran district on Saturday evening, said officials.

A security officer who declined to be named told DawnNews that security forces conducted a raid in the Surghar area of Awaran. Two alleged terrorists were arrested after exchange of fire, he said.

Security forces also destroyed camps and hideouts of miscreants in the area, he added.
