At least four men drowned in the Indus River when a chairlift cable broke in Samar Nullah area of Diamer district on Friday evening, it has been learnt.

Giving details, DPO Abdul Aziz Afridi informed media persons that four men were going back to their houses after offering Jumma prayers in Tangir area of Gilgit Baltistan. They sat on the chairlift connecting the Tangir valley area of Diamer District with the rest, but it broke halfway.

The DPO added that search for the drowned people was underway, however, due to the increased flow of river these days, the bodies could not be recovered immediately.

The drowned people were identified as Sher Azam, Raaj Gul, Roop Khan and Asil Khan.

Police said all the men belonged to Tangir valley. Deputy Commissioner Kohistan Upper Asif Khan told Dawn that rescue teams were carrying out efforts to recover the bodies of the drowned victims.
