SWABI: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is spending Rs120 million on provision of facilities at the government girls higher secondary school and government boys higher secondary school in Topi city here.

Sources said that PML-N MPA Shiraz Khan had played a key role in the allocation of funds for the purpose. They said that about Rs30 million had been allocated for construction of a hostel in the girls school so as to give accommodation facility to the students from far-off areas. They said that another Rs30 million of the funds would be spent on construction on an examination hall in the girls school. Also, seven more classrooms were being constructed there.

The Topi high school for boys, which was recently upgraded to higher secondary level, would also get the required classrooms and other facilities. The sources said that Rs30 million would be spent on the project. When contacted, the contractor said that construction of classrooms would be completed in next three months.

Meanwhile, 85 secondary school teachers (SSTs) have been appointed in Swabi district. Sources said that the notification in this regard was issued by the district office of Elementary and Secondary Education Department.

They said that the new teachers had been asked to take charge of their assignment in the designated schools and started work within a week.

“We were told to assume duty in the next few days. We have been appointed through the NTS test in BPS-16,” said one of the newly-appointed teachers. The aim of the new appointments was to fulfil the need of teaching staff and impart quality education to the students in government schools.

When contacted, principals of various schools said that the issue of teachers shortage had been resolved in their institutions. They said that now each class would have less number of students and it would be easy for the teachers to manage their classes.
