KARACHI, Jan 3: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan said here on Thursday that except for the police and the KWSB all other departments such as the KDA, the MDA, the LDA and the KWSB had been merged with the city government from Jan 1.

Reiterating that the city government enjoyed full authority, he said that after the promulgation of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 2001, there was no need of any notification with regard to status of all those departments which are to be amalgamated with the city government under the devolution plan.

The Nazim, who was talking to newsmen in his chamber, said that the officials of all those organisations which had been merged with the city government would be posted strictly on the basis of their seniority.

Talking about the city’s development plans, he said that the federal government would shortly provide grant to the city government for carrying out development projects being prepared under the special package.

About the city’s roads, he said that a number of roads were being repaired nowadays and the repair works of all the roads in dilapidated condition would be completed shortly.

SECRETARIAT: Replying to a question, the Nazim said that a decision had, in principle, been taken to convert the Civic Centre’s building into the city government’s secretariat mainly because there was a shortage of space in the defunct KMC’s head office building.
