RAWALPINDI: The listing of houses under the sixth census started in the Rawalpindi district from the deputy commissioner house at Civil Lines on Tuesday.

Adjacent to the Governor Annexe, Punjab House and Fatima Jinnah Women University, the deputy commissioner house was marked number one in the house listing.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Nazia Perveen Sudhan along with the census officials marked the house to inaugurate the census.

The Rawalpindi division has been divided into 12 parts, including Rawalpindi, Rawalpindi Cantonment, Murree, Murree Cantonment, Taxila, Taxila Cantonment, Gujar Khan, Kallar Syedan, Kahuta, Wah Cantt and Kotli Sattiyan.

As many as 78 charges, 4,509 blocks and 553 circles have formed and a total of 2,280 enumerators drawn from civilian departments and 2,945 army personnel are taking part in the census duty. There are 317 reserved enumerators who will perform their duties in case of any need.

The census started with the house listing which will continue for three days and the head counting will start from April 28.

Ms Sudhan told Dawn that two blocks had been handed over to each team and the team would first complete the house listing and head counting in one block in 14 days and hand over the forms to the administration.

She said the cantonment executive officer and the assistant commissioner had been declared the district census officers and would supervise the census in their respective areas.

She said the survey to mark the houses would continue till April 27 while the head counting would be carried out from April 28 to May 9.

She said the census process would be completed on May 25.

Ms Sudhan appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the census teams in order to play their part in making the exercise productive and successful.
