Two men on Tuesday reportedly hurled abuse at an elderly Muslim man in India who had requested them to vacate a seat for him on a Delhi Metro coach, Hindustan Times reported.
Hurling abuses at the senior citizen, the men told him to "go back to Pakistan", the daily said.
According to a post on Facebook by women's rights activist Kavita Krishnan, when the request was made a second time, the two young men said: “This seat is for Hindustanis not for Pakistanis like you. If you want a seat, go to Pakistan and get it there.”
Krishnan's post on Facebook recounted the incident as witnessed by Santosh Roy, the National Secretary of All India Central Council of Trade Unions, who was also travelling on the Delhi Metro.
Watching the incident unfold, Roy got up from his seat and asked the two young men to apologise for their behaviour.
According to Krishnan's post, the youngsters, instead of apologising, started hurling abuse at Roy and, grabbing him by the collar, told him to "Go to Pakistan" also.
When the metro arrived at its destination, a guard entered the compartment and intervened. The two young men were taken to the police station where a complaint was lodged.
However, the old man did not pursue the case further, forgiving the two young men keeping in mind their age, Krishnan's post read.

She has stated that, there were several other young men who stood up and sided the two who abused the senior Muslim and repeatedly refused to vacate for him the seat they were occupying that was clearly marked as reserved for Senior Citizens.

I am glad no body got hurt and i am also glad that people with brains acted maturely and helped the elderly. A complaint was also lodged against the youngsters which shows that people respect each other in India regardless of their country religion, or ethnicity. Pakistanis have no right to point fingers because same could have happened in Pakistan. Both countries have the same issues so Pakistan is no better than India. Don't really understand why people from both side try to prove their superiority over each other. Majority of issues are political and has been since independence and it is leaders duty to bridge these gaps and so far both countries have failed to do so.

Two young narrow minded people who do not know much about the world and who probably were brought up by bigoted parents make a statement which cannot and should not be justified , and suddenly this is representative of India. How people love to jump on the band wagon. They should be taken in front of a judge and given the punishment that it deserves for causing racial harassment and indeed hurt even though the victim was not Muslim. However, this is where the matter should end. Agree. There should be more emotional and cultural education available in the curriculum in India. Issues of diversity and acceptance of differences should be encouraged and laws made to protect all minorities. Welcome diversity and that's the true worth of any progressive society.

So many time I have given my seat to ladies with little kids/infants regardless Hindu/ Muslim or any other religion and number of times I have seen in general compartments people get up for senior citizens or ladies regardless of their religion. At present muslim population in India is roughly 172 million in India , always wondered how come Muslims never left India during portion when a separate Islamic state was created just on religion basis. Some young people in India have no respect for anyone. My wife and I were travelling by train in India. We were harassed by some young hooligans who had forced their entry into the reserved coach on the train. When I protested they beat me.
Neither of of us is a Muslim.
While their aggressiveness was certainly certainly heightened by the man being a Muslim, it's a mistake to think that it does not happen to non-Muslims. Some young people have offered me a seat in Delhi metro because of my white beard, but most would push me to sit or run past me to get on an elevator when they can easily get on an escalator or use stairs when going down one level.
Nonetheless, it's shameful but it's wrong to view it only in religious terms. Younger generation in India needs to learn how to get along with others.

A part those men had to give a written apology to that elderly person. And the metro guard took them in custody on next destination. The police requested the elderly person a police protection to reach his home which he politely denied.
Though a sad incident but a first case where a person directly shows his foolishness to another person based on religion.I can't even imagine this kind of case here in India. All due to modi i think

Exceptions do NOT prove the rule. If two behave stupidly; that does not mean the entire crowd is racist. When the crowd; the journalist; the police and even the parents of these two forced them to apologise; it showed Indian population's belief in secularism. Some politicians may try to exploit religious feelings but cannot change either the constitution or the education system in India which not just teaches but also practices secular teachings right from the time a child enters school across the nation with > 90% of the Muslims study within the same system and play sports like cricket within the same unified system of India. This is why; you will find minorities in all walks of life in India. Discriminations are NOT undeniable but are more of an exception. If this was not true; you would not have seen Azharuddun; Zaheer khan, Mohd Kaif, Saina Mirza..... long list ; Muslim actors you name them & corporates like Aziz Premjee of Wipro ( among Top 5); Wockhardt, the list is endless.

I have asked her for any proofs except for the story in her own narration, she has not got back till now.
Some anonymous old man (no name), some anonymous young men (no names), police complaints withdrawn (no FIR records). The name of the magnanimous person who came forward to help (Santosh Roy, who happens to be the author's friend) is the only name disclosed. The story doesn't seem to be true. It may be true. But no proof till now that it is. So the benefit of doubt goes to the youth of Delhi :)
Unfortunately too many fake stories on media these days makes us question all stories without proofs. So it becomes necessary when you publish a news like this, especially one which claims that someone abused someone else based on religion/race/skin colour etc., a news that can potentially trigger hatred between two communities (and a post that you, no doubt, expected to go viral) you better give accompanying proof. Mr.Roy was in the train with those people long enough.

I was born in Delhi, Darya Ganj. My best friend was a Hindu. I used to visit his house and play with him and others, however, I was not allowed to enter 'the rasoli' where food was made. What a sad state that Hindus and Muslims who have lived and even intermarried for more than a thousand years have become animus towards each other due to the poisonous atmosphere created by politicians. @Ahmed Haris The reason why India is called secular is because the person who raised a voice again the mistreatment offered to the elderly gentleman was of a different religious belief, and the guard did take an action and tool the wrong doers to custody.
Bad elements are in every society and please be assured human nature does not change with goverment
