ISLAMABAD: Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday directed the interior secretary and IGP Islamabad to appear in person on the next date of hearing in the missing PPP leader case.

Nawab Ali Leghari, who was an aide to the former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, was picked up from his residence on April 4.

Justice Kayani also questioned the effectiveness of the Safe City project.

He said despite the presence of several CCTV cameras on almost every road in the capital, the PPP leader was picked up, and the police have been unable to trace him.

The petitioner, who is the spouse of Mr Leghari, alleged that her husband might be in the illegal confinement of the interior secretary.

She claimed that the Loi Bher SHO registered an FIR only after the issue was highlighted in the media.

The petitioner requested the court to direct the IG Islamabad to recover Mr Leghari, produce him before the court and hand him over to his family. The case has been adjourned till May 8.
