CHAKWAL: Generator fumes killed two people in a well in Budhial village some 14-km away from Chakwal city on Saturday.

According to Rescue 1122, the villagers had made a plan to clean a well by taking out its dirty water and hired a labourer named Sarfraz Hussain, who with the help of a generator-run water pump started cleaning the well.

As he was busy in cleaning the well, generator fumes accumulated in the well due to which the labourer fell unconscious.

To take him out, two villagers, Wajid Iqbal and Mohammad Nawaz, also landed in the well without taking proper safety measures and also fell unconscious, the spokesperson for Rescue 1122 said.

He said the emergency service launched an operation to retrieve them but unfortunately the labourer, Sarfraz Hussain, and villager Wajid Iqbal expired while Mohammad Nazir was rescued.
