After their latest victory against the West Indies in the one-day international series on Tuesday, Pakistan added another feather to their cap and achieved the second highest number of wins in the ODI series to date.
Pakistan defeated West Indies by six wickets owing to the match-winning partnership of centurion Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez who scored 81 runs.
Pakistan has won 460 ODI matches out of the 874 the team has played.
The team with the most ODI victories is four-time world champions Australia winning 554 matches from a total of 898 that it played.
India now stands behind the green shirts with 459 ODI victories out of the 907 one-day internationals that it has played.
In addition, Pakistan also emerged as the winning team after defeating India in 72 one-day international matches out of the 127 the arch-rivals have played so far.
Pakistan also has secured the most victories in Twenty20 internationals with 67 wins out of the 114 matches.
It ranks sixth among the teams with most wins in Test matches, standing at 130 out of the 407 Tests the team has played.
Overall, Pakistan currently stands third across all three cricket formats with 657 wins out of 1,395 matches.
Australia tops the list with 978 wins out of the 1,792 international matches; England stands second with 727 victories out of the 1,758 international matches whereas India stands fourth with 646 wins out of the 1,500 international matches the team played.

Wins over the past 40 years or over all time don't really matter. What matters is recent performance. On that basis Pakistan are in 8th position (behind Bangladesh) in the ICC ODI rankings. The West Indies are 9th.
On current performance automatic qualification for the next world cup is in some doubt. We should stop living off past glory and focus on what is wrong now. Anything other than a 3-0 whitewash of the West Indies is a step back.

As a Pakistani I am glad. However, this is very misleading and takes into account the glorious days of the past as well. A correct metric would me, what is the win-loss ration in the last 10 years.

@Ijaz this fan has some valid points - though I was fan of pak till 2000 things afterward not to be proud of - quality is there but terrorism took cricket away from fantastic Pakistan - wish they retain Rhein lost glory - agreed they were better team than India till 2000 if not one of the top 3 nations in cricket

Pakistan hasn't lost an ODI series against WI in over 20 years so it would have been an upset if we had lost. More importantly I can't remember the last time we won a series against a top 3 team - must be over 10 years. Pakistan needs to emulate England who after they had a miserable World Cup in Australia have turned things around in a big way.
Beating number 9th ranked team to secure 8th position for the Champions Trophy qualification is good but the fact is we are way behind the top ranked teams.

India on other hand had some out of box ideas to market the game and credit must be given for their administrators for taking it to globe - yes many scandals even there too but it never affected players perfoemances - they are not world no.1 but some unity is there somewhere in office to raise above the bar to make more money for everyone in bcci -- as for batsmen agreed but bowlers no commenrs incentive they take the flight overseas

I should not be the number of wins, but the win/loss ratio in order to rank overall. Else the number three and 4 teams will never catch up given Aus and Eng play and have played such a large number of tests
