Pakistan is in serious danger of failing to qualify directly for the International Cricket Council's (ICC) World Cup 2019 in the United Kingdom as it currently sits at eighth position in the One Day International Team Rankings.

Pakistan is at eighth position with 89 points, two behind Bangladesh and two ahead of the West Indies, said an ICC press release.

A former world champion, Pakistan has sets its sights on direct qualification for the World Cup 2019 as it takes on the in-form reigning world champion and number-one ranked Australia in a five-ODI series starting in Brisbane on Friday.

To at least maintain its pre-series ranking points, Pakistan needs to win one match of the series, while victories in more than one match will earn it crucial points.

If Pakistan wins two matches, then it will join Bangladesh on 91 points but will be ranked behind its Asian rivals by a fraction.

In the scenario of Pakistan winning the series, it will move ahead of Bangladesh and, as such, will enhance its chances of qualifying directly for the event it won in Australia in 1992.

On the flipside, Australia will retain its pre- series points if it wins the series 4-1, while it will concede one point if it wins 3-2. Australia can fall from the top pedestal but to make it happen, Pakistan will have to win by 4-1 or better.

However, considering that Australia leads Pakistan 33-16 on a head-to-head in its backyard, including 15 wins in 19 ODIs this decade, this looks highly improbable.

The ODI team rankings, unlike the Test rankings, are updated after each match and the ODI predictor function is available here.

Host England and the seven highest-ranked sides on the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team Rankings as on 30 September 2017 will qualify directly for the event proper to be held from May 30 to July 15, 2019.

The four bottom-ranked sides will be joined by six teams from the ICC World Cricket League in the 10-team ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018 and the top two sides will complete the 10-team World Cup line-up.

Meanwhile, third-ranked India takes on fifth-ranked England in a three-ODI series starting in Pune on Sunday, January 15. While India will be aiming to narrow the gap with second-ranked South Africa, England will be targeting an upward movement.

India can rise to as high as 114 points if it sweeps the series, but if the series result is reversed, then England can move up one place to fourth and India can slide to fifth.

When friends and relatives are appointed in any place by the government, these things happen.

Match fixing and selections based not on merit are the factors damaging pakistani cricket.

dean Jan 11, 2017 02:26pm

Pakistan needs to concentrate on its own cricket and not to look elsewhere

Lalit Sharma Jan 11, 2017 02:41pm

1st. hockey now cricket. Sad

fair Jan 11, 2017 02:44pm

there are enough talented players in the domestic circuit that a team comprising of these players can easily beat our national team. Its just that a specific group has taken control of affairs of selection at PCB and players adhering to their's Psyche is selected.

Nurul huda Jan 11, 2017 02:40pm

India can narrow the gap between 2 & 3 but not let down the position to fifth as Lafanga wish.

salam Jan 11, 2017 02:53pm

Pakistan is a good side to qualify for the WC2019. If not directly, sure they can come through the qualifying tournament. This will also give them good practice of international ODI matches which they are lacking currently as there are no international matches being organized in Pakistan.

Sarai Alamgir Jan 11, 2017 02:54pm

Pak should concentrate on their own performance and shut the mouths of the criticizers by their actions. I am really upset with the comments made by Chappell in Australia, that Pak should not be invited over to Australia in the future if their performance does not improve, i take it as a very offensive statement, did Pak say this when we whitewashed them 2-0 in UAE two years ago, and that was after 20 years that anyone had done so. The best way to shut such comments is to go out there and win this series. We have to work with the team selected, so lets not comment on selection which cannot be changed.

salam Jan 11, 2017 03:05pm

@fair Please understand the difference in level of competition at domestic and international level. Players who score centuries at dead Pakistani pitches cannot score runs in Australia and South African on hard and bouncy pitches against quality fast bowling.

The solution is to send U19 and 'A' level teams to play internationally. PSL is also a good initiative where local players can rub their shoulders with international players.

Sabeeh Ahmad Jan 11, 2017 03:30pm

Pakistan has talent but its not allowed to come at top due to Politics and illegal money involved in PCB. Talented guys are often asked for money by PCB and if they mange to pay and got in, then politics does not allow these players to play for their country. Unless these malpractices and politics does not stop Pakistan will be at bottom.

ADNAN MAZHR KHAN Jan 11, 2017 03:51pm

And, then we are saying that Pakistan is progressing in every field.

RAHIM Jan 11, 2017 03:49pm

Better to make plans on how to win the qualifiers in 2018

India Jan 11, 2017 03:55pm

This is completely illogical. The World Cup can never be a World Cup without Pakistan.

M. Ahmed Jan 11, 2017 03:59pm

This is what you get when you have PCB been run by journalists and unqualified people

Zealot Jan 11, 2017 04:01pm

Keep Crushing,Humiliating,Whitewash in your mind.THE WAY YOU PLAYED TEST,YOU DONT DESERVE TO WIN EVEN A SINGLE ODI MATCH TOO.....

point of view Jan 11, 2017 04:03pm

@India, why? Is Pakistan only a team for world cup ?. Due credit has to be given to all teams play for world cup.

Jawad U Rahman Jan 11, 2017 04:08pm

How stupid of ICC to limit the World Cup to 8 teams, while FIFA is expanding its Soccer World Cup to 48 countries !

marcus Jan 11, 2017 04:08pm

Maybe if all the players who had taken money to throw the game away returned the money it may improve our rankings.

If Pakistan are going to do well at ODI they need to do the following asap -

  1. Get rid of Mickey Arthur
  2. Get rid of Inzi
  3. Get rid of Wahab - who is still corrupt
  4. Do not play Yasir Shah
  5. Select players on performance not reputation

The following Side will do well in the following order -

  1. Sharjeel 2. Azhar Ali 3. Umar Akmal (wicket Keeper) 4. Asad Shafiq 5. Hafeez 6. Malik 7. Imad Wasim 8. Sohail Khan 9. Mohammed Amir 10. Hassan 11. Junaid.

This squad gives them a balance of everything with the exception of a specialist wicket keeper but given how things are with sarfraz better to go without. Also we have right and left arm bowlers and three spin options.

They need to aim at posting totals in excess of 350 if they are to stand a chance at winning.

Omar Jan 11, 2017 04:10pm

Time has come to focus on a different sport. Cricket is relegated to colonial nations. Let's move on and invest in more exciting sports like football and basketball.

Sankalp Jan 11, 2017 04:09pm

Where has pakistan cricket reached ! Once the feared side with super awesome pace battery and quality daring batsmen has slumped so low that they are eying "qualification" !

Pune-India Jan 11, 2017 04:15pm

oh so sad...

Habib Jan 11, 2017 04:25pm

Great. The future of the cricket in Pakistan is same as Hockey, Squash or any other sport. When your captain is blaming players for their fitness after losing the series and when guilty players become your hero then have no expectation. They have to fight with the likes of Bangladesh & West Indies for the survival. What a big joke. One word, "Shame".

J.niaz Jan 11, 2017 04:31pm

@Jawad U Rahman Excellent comment. ICC should seriously consider increasing the number of participating teams.

khan Jan 11, 2017 04:32pm

Kamran Akmal should consider ahead of Rizwan for upcoming ODI's against Australia.

Even though K.Akmal is not the future of Pakistan, at present kamran is better than Rizwan in batting as well as keeping and he can hit hard , keeping in mind Pakistan have to beat Australia atleast in 2 ODI's to make sure it qualify directly in 2019 WC .

Sarfraz will miss very badly in ODI's because he is the backbone of the team who contributes consistently to the score board ..

Shahid Jan 11, 2017 04:40pm

Big deal.

GAUR Jan 11, 2017 04:50pm

@Sarai Alamgir 2-0 is not called a whitewash.

GAUR Jan 11, 2017 04:55pm

@Sankalp quality daring batsmen!!! When ? And who were they ?

India Jan 11, 2017 04:56pm

@point of view I agree, but, I cannot think of a world cup without Pakistan. Pakistan and India would always rule the heart of the World Cup event and it is hard to imagine at least a cricket World Cup event without anyone of those.

Shahid Jan 11, 2017 05:09pm

With so much talent and expertise on display in comments on this forum, where even a selected complete team is on offer, why has PCT failed again and again. Truth is every aspect of life here is victim of confusion and PCT is a reflection of that reality. Eligibility on pure merit is all well and good but real issue is why nobody is willing to play on your real home ground. Just think about it, seriously. Ad hocism never works because of its nature.

Sekhar Jan 11, 2017 05:10pm

Chill Guys!!! Even if India and Pakistan drop below top-10, those greedy crooks running ICC will make sure that these two not only qualify, but make it to the knock-out stage.

Sekhar Jan 11, 2017 05:12pm

After all, it's only in the sub-continent that there are people who spend 7-8 hours watching cricket matches.

Fiz Jan 11, 2017 05:21pm

Old news. We already know that. But no serious effort being made to correct the situation.

BAXAR Jan 11, 2017 05:25pm

@Omar " Let's move on and invest in more exciting sports like football and basketball." First our nation has to learn the basics of sports. We don't know how to run, jump, swim etc. Secondly, we should learn basic rules and follow strictly from start. If we start playing football without keeping in mind off side rule, the game developed from there will be very hard to adjust. Same happened with cricket as bowlers are allowed to bowl "watta" and lbw rules relaxed for batsmen. Sport is like war, about positioning yourself. Investment in sport only comes afterwards.

Dr. SalariA, Aamir Ahmad Jan 11, 2017 06:16pm

Only time will tell.

israr Jan 11, 2017 06:15pm

5-0 definitely on cards :) the only way Pakistan can win any game is by surprising Australian with some unusual tactics ... we know azhar has asked for hafeez specially so we can see hafeez against warner and khuwaja with new ball and imad against smith, also we know 250 plus target is highly unlikely to be achieved and if we bat first and score about 280 we can win by taking wickets early ... but its Australia not England so imad might not be as handy as he was with new ball in uk with sarfaraz back home I don't see our batting as solid at all, the shoulder of scoring quick runs without getting out is on malik and hafeez rest will either score v slow or will get out trying to score fast, I do believe the trump card for Pakistan to win any game is sharjeel and babar azam and to be honest that's it ... we will lost series 5-0, going into the series with this mentality will help Pakistan as that means we got nothing to lose lets play our A game. good luck Pakistan.

Indian4rmblore Jan 11, 2017 06:21pm

Don't worry, without Pakistan world cup will b very dull, ICC will do something if that case arises. Hopefully pak will play well rest of the matches

Talha Jan 11, 2017 06:23pm

Thank you Najam Sethi.

AJ Jan 11, 2017 06:24pm

So many negative comments - we seem to have lost hope even before a ball is bowled in the series? Truly a sign of a defeated nation

I truly hope that the team does well and prove its fans wrong!

Indian4rmblore Jan 11, 2017 06:25pm

@Sarai Alamgir I agree with u, but chappel is saying truth, the way pak lost it, was horrible for test cricket, coz atleast two test matches would have been easily drawn, but pak lost the match, think if results was 1-0, how it would b?

SHIVA Jan 11, 2017 06:29pm

shdhsn Jan 11, 2017 06:49pm

whoever plays better deserves to be qualified. So don't panic. Removing Mohsin Hassan Khan as a head coach when team was doing so well was the biggest mistake, since then Pakistan is facing a down fall.

SaeEd Jan 11, 2017 07:00pm

@SAIF ZULFIQAR I don't see any friends or relatives are pointed. Cricket like any other institute is badly hurt by religious terrorism. No country want to tour Pakistan and youngster getting no exposure of other countries.Playing game mostly overseas result in losing point. its not corruption or nepotism its religious terrorism

khan Jan 11, 2017 07:15pm

No matter how bad performance Pakistan team is giving and every one knows current Pakistan team is the worse if we compare from the previous teams of so far and players, but it is time to motivate the team / players rather than criticizing and saying 5 - 0 on cards.

Need to work from grass roots (Under 16 and U19 teams) to make sure Pakistan team is on track ..and from now on all Pakistan home series should be in Australia or Africa if not in Pakistan ...Playing in UAE and winning the series in UAE is good for nothing..

Shahryar Shirazi Jan 11, 2017 07:11pm

@India you are living in the 80s and 90s my friend.

Overseas PakistANI Jan 11, 2017 07:13pm

No one, even the experts and retired cricketers, are realising that we don't have the talent in the country specially batting which, to say the least, is pathetic. Hence our team will not be able to win the one day series in Australia and consequently we will have to participate in the qualification rounds.

Chander Jan 11, 2017 07:16pm

Captain is most important and should be most powerful player in the team.Teams and good Captain's are not made overnight.Have to nurture them.A good Captain can raise a good team

Dream Jan 11, 2017 07:26pm

@Sarai Alamgir In cricket, Whitewash is a term that is used when a team wins all the matches played in a series of at least 3 matches.

faisal Jan 11, 2017 07:29pm

ADD (Canada) Jan 11, 2017 07:34pm

@M. Ahmed At one point the same was said about West Indies. Times changes everything. Keep up with the times or be left behind.

PAKISTAN FIRST Jan 11, 2017 07:39pm

@salam : Woo this is our standard now, that we are ok to come through qualifying rounds. It is quite pathetic if this is our standard now.

PAKISTAN FIRST Jan 11, 2017 07:39pm

@marcus : You got this all wrong If we pick the right bowler we can beat Australia even if we score 250. But we have to pick the right players, meaning look at your domestic bowler's likes of Bismillah Khan, Sadaf Hussain and much more to choose from. That is what needed, where you getting Hafeez in these 11 players who is tried and tested with failures. Start picking players based on their merit not which province and what Parchii they have.

PAKISTAN FIRST Jan 11, 2017 07:40pm

@Sekhar : I agree with you Sekhar, but as of India they are the very strong team and they can never fall below 8 because they believe in merit system and our government is way more corrupt than Indian Government. That is what killing this country, it is not the lack of talent but nepotism and parchi system.

The end is near Jan 11, 2017 07:52pm

Corruption everywhere in Pakistan. Honest people in this country are ignored and get punished for being honest. No hope left for Pakistan at all.

Dr riffat jabeen Jan 11, 2017 07:58pm

Ammar Jan 11, 2017 08:11pm

@Jawad U Rahman You need to see good cricket, not sub-standard cricket at the world cup level and we are far from it

Rajendran Jan 11, 2017 08:30pm

That won't happen. There is no point in holding any World Cup without Pakistan

Masoud Jan 11, 2017 08:35pm

Like hockey Pakistani fans are losing interest in cricket as well. Few more humiliating losses will act like last nail. Pakistan need high quality fighting players. Only hard physical training minus strong mental attitude cannot elevate a player's performance.

N_Saq Jan 11, 2017 08:34pm

It is not Misbah's fault, what can Misbah do if he is not given the best Pak side i.e. in bowling. There were lot of good batting performances which were not backed up by bowlers.

Right now Pak has one bowler who can be successful overseas and that is Mohammed Amir the rest of Pak bowling line up is mediocre and the reason Amir is not successful is because opposition plays Amir carefully and then bludgeon the other bowlers. The reason Amir was successful in the past is because of Mohammed Asif, the best swing bowler in the world, bowling from the other side. Therefore, when Amir and Asif was bowling in tandem there was no respite for the batsmen and they will crumble under the pressure. So in a nutshell, by punishing Asif more than he deserve, Pak is punishing itself.

Rajendran Jan 11, 2017 08:38pm

I wish Pakistan beat Aussies in atleast two or three matches. Also ICC should consider that Pakistan is not playing home series and the disadvantage they have

Omar Jan 11, 2017 08:57pm

I am.pakistani and I want this to happen . You have to hit Rock bottom somewhere where u realize enough is enough and actually do something about it.. we have enough been putting bandages and a tape around broken team and corrupt system for last 10 years when all we need a complete remodeling from management to players .

pak47 Jan 11, 2017 08:55pm

Cricket is a sport played by only 8 countries dominated with Indian money and influence. Can we please move on and utilize our resources on something like Football, Basketball, and Tennis ?

All you have to do is WIN and you can only win if play today's cricket and make correct decisions. I am not in favor of Azhar Ali being ODI captain but same time don't want Pakistan to lose. These 5 ODIs against Australia will tell us who will be staying in ODI and who are leaving.

Zia Jan 11, 2017 10:59pm

@Lalit Sharma it is not about hockey or cricket, it is about whole of society and country. Take out corruption and nepotism from the top and you ll have high chance of best possible representing the country.

Sudhi Jan 11, 2017 10:59pm

@salam How long will you practice till the world cup gets over

Shadman Jan 11, 2017 11:04pm

I don't think Pakistan need to worry about it because they have to be at no 8 by September and during this time they will play lots of ODI including a series against WI, BD, Champions trophy etc. So even if they fail to win in Australia it wont mean they have to play qualifier. Not to mention BD has a lot of ODI away from home which they less likely to win so Pakistan sure going to be ahead of them. WI is the one who should be worried tbh

seeker Jan 11, 2017 11:05pm

Most of the Pakistani fans are writing as if they are out of contention. Don't throw the towel as yer folks, there are still many matches to play. And even if Pakistan are forced to go through qualifiers, I am sure they will qualify and who knows even lift the cup. Best wishes from India.

Seedoo Jan 11, 2017 11:30pm

Nav Jan 11, 2017 11:34pm

Two things 1) what's the rush to determine ranking in Sep'17 when WC is in 2019 2) this seems to be a lousy way to determine rankings, you win a few and you're one of the best and on the flip side you're the worst; doesn't reward consistency... alas is ICC!

rajat Jan 11, 2017 11:38pm

What India has to do if Pakistan does or doesn't qualify directly for worldcup? Why can't Pakistan media and their people live without talking about India?

AH Jan 11, 2017 11:38pm

Azhar Ali , Misbah & Waqar Younis are the reasons for our down fall in one day cricket. What they did in last world cup? Kept Sarfraz out for 3 oneday which we lost.

They took out Fawad Alam after his century in one day international. They never gave proper chances to the players from karachi. If Khalid latif got chances they way they gave to sami Aslam, Umar Amin, Haris Sohail, Shoaib Maqsood & babar Azam, Khalid Latif could break many records.

Other victims are Khurrum Manzoor, Tabish Khan, Mohd Sami, Shahzeb Hasan, Asif zakir and of course Fawad ALam,

ZAK Jan 12, 2017 10:57am

We should call Shoaib Aktar back and Sajid Ajmal back. In batting, we should get Taufiq Umar back...he was so explosive opener...we must get him back...and see the magic...we will win the series....

On the other game, I think its high time we should discover new game...may be because of our physique and build, we should focus on discus throw, shot put and bring uniqueness to these games and make it world class...and soon we will see so many Olympic medals in Pakistan name...

Salman Jan 12, 2017 10:56am

As long as players from one part of the country keep getting preferential treatment - latest example M. Hafeez, the national team will never be at its professional best.

MOHD FadzILE Jan 12, 2017 11:10am

Basic problem with Pakistan Team is its batting. We hardly fire as a unit. Need a specialist batting coach to mentor our batsman. No issue with the talent its just someone who can convert talent into performance.

Ski Jan 12, 2017 12:06pm

Indians will be more disappointed if Pakistan is not allowed to play the world cup...

Ataf Ahemed Ansari Jan 12, 2017 12:53pm

It is unlikely to win against Australia in Australia . Pakistan has to improve their game. It is pity , a team of very high caliber has to play qualifier.

Ataf Ahemed Ansari Jan 12, 2017 12:58pm

Selection also a factor.Although, After inzy took over selection, there is some improvement. Boy it needs a lot of work towards the fitness of the players. Some old players also should be shown the door to inject new blood. Particularly, Fawad Alam and some other players also be given a chance and I am sure the team will have positive improvement.

rABBANI Jan 12, 2017 01:05pm

@Habib ..what do you mean by like bangladesh, we are far ahead of every index of development not only cricket. In world cup 2019 Bd will be semifinalist without fail. with in 2 years our young talents will be enough experienced to beat India , S/A, Aus.

Let's wait and see what really happens on the ground instead of making various assumptions and presumptions about the green-shirts like a palmist or fortune teller.

Dawn Jan 12, 2017 06:25pm

@marcus - My choice too. Yes this would be the team given the current lot.

vvv Jan 12, 2017 06:51pm

have seen Pakistan golden days, Wasim, Waqar, Akib,Imran, Saqlan, Javed, Imran, Inzmam, Saleem malik, abdul quader so many stater at the peak. Feel sad for this situation now. But its not the fault of Pakistani team player . Extremist and terrorism destroy the Pakistan like a cancer and Cricket is also victim of that.

Rohan Jan 12, 2017 07:29pm

@ZAK You never fail in making me laugh out load.... irrespective of the topic!!! Shoaib Akthar back ?? HAHA... I think you should consider Waqar, Wasim, Imran Khan (odd captain and allrounder), miandad to call back as well!

azmat shah Jan 12, 2017 08:10pm

I believe we will perform better in ODI. The main reason of our ranking plummeting recently is the lack of all rounders in the side and i think we have found 2 very good all-rounders in Nawaz and Imad Waseem. The absence of sarfaraz will hurt us though and big time. It will be better contested at least then the test series

San Jan 12, 2017 08:34pm

Sounds like a Great Strategy!!!!!! Keep them coming!!!!!

San Jan 12, 2017 08:37pm

Awesome strategy...

vorshal Jan 12, 2017 09:12pm

@India - Anything can happen, and the world cup will go on!

Remember Pakistan was knocked out by Ireland. India was also cut short by a minnow. Australia too was cut short by Zimbabwe in the earlier editions!

A full strength West Indies team in their backyard can be very effective in the upcoming series.

vorshal Jan 12, 2017 09:15pm

@Dr. SalariA, Aamir Ahmad - Yes, they may or may not!

Babu bhai from saudabad Jan 12, 2017 09:20pm

@azmat shah. Nawaz and Imad very good all-rounders?? I seriously doubt it.

Desipardesi Jan 12, 2017 09:34pm

So sad. Gone are the days of Majid, Zaheer, Asif, Sarfraz, and the great Imran. Pak needs to play more first class cricket in Aus, Eng, WI instead of UAE. Form a league in those countries. Join their domestic leagues.

Desipardesi Jan 12, 2017 09:41pm

If Pak does not qualify for WC because of combination of weird events, Ind, SL, BAN should boycott the WC. After all, what's a WC w/o Ind vs Pak. It has and always will be most watched match of the WC. Both team always lift their game in their rivalry match.

Farah (New York) Jan 12, 2017 09:46pm

They should be ashamed of themselves

SiDDHARTHA Jan 12, 2017 09:56pm

I am from India and I will not be interested to watch the World Cup without Pakistan except India-Australia or India-South Africa match. Doesn't matter what is the ranking of Pakistani team, they should be part of the tournament-period.

Babu bhai from saudabad Jan 12, 2017 10:11pm

Pakistan should play home games in SA or Eng to have more chances of winning on fast and seaming pitches.

Babu bhai from saudabad Jan 12, 2017 10:58pm

@Dr. SalariA, Aamir Ahmad. Very well said Dr. Everyone is an expert behind the key board!

Ahmed Jan 13, 2017 12:27am

Pakistan will bounce back. India Pak match is still the star attraction of WC. Count on the business, they are going to fight the match.

Akber Jan 13, 2017 03:32am

From World cup and Olympic gold medal winner to a non qualifier in our national game, why wonder if it will happen to cricket as well.

SK Jan 13, 2017 06:41am

Pakistan team deserves a much better place!

singingyogi Jan 13, 2017 07:23am

A World Cup without Pakistan? That will be no fun. Here's wishing the Pakistan team all the best. Please win enough to qualify.

Pakistani Jan 13, 2017 07:48am

@marcus this is stupid, dont play yaser hahahah ..... one bad series can u tell me how many wicktes shane warne got in Aus ..... Pak be better off going throug qualification then they be hungry

kerala Jan 13, 2017 08:20am

@Shahzeb see you guys are always dependant on others in case of ranking whether its odi or test .

byju Jan 13, 2017 09:03am

@Ski certainly, as we are assured of two points.

rana Jan 13, 2017 09:23am

pakistani cricket be saved from ex cricketers.

Pakman Jan 13, 2017 09:32am

Why not just give up on cricket and spend few years in wilderness to build a team with professionals based on pure merit.

seeker Jan 13, 2017 09:31am

Pakistan are taking Aussie wickets as of now. So as as I wrote yesterday Pakistani supporters need not lose heart and should stop trolling their players, selection committee, et al (we Indians too hit at our players at the slightest drop in performance :-) ). You can still make it without qualifier.

Ash Hasan Jan 13, 2017 09:45am

I'm willing to move back to Pakistan and willing to donate my time to fix Pakistan Cricket. I can't stand to see Pakistan lose to a team which can only win on its own turf. Australia is not better in talent but knows how to manage each situation and execute accordingly. In the last three test, except the 2nd, Pakistani team played with no sense of urgency or desire to win. Batting Stunk from top the bottom except for Younus and Shafiq. Pakistan Cricket needs to be Managed by a "DESI" who understands the cultural issues and how to be successful and, I might add, roll heads if necessary. I highly suggest team and management read Pat Riley's Books (The Winner Within or Showtime) on performance. Are you Listening PCB? I'm willing to work FREE OF CHARGE but you would have to promise me to let me use my STICK when necessary!

Avid Pakistani.

TRUMPOFINDIA Jan 13, 2017 11:11am

Then, qualification rules need to be relooked. Though mostly is unpredictable, pakistan is a top class team.

Abdul Wani Jan 13, 2017 01:20pm

Pakistan is now Zarb-e-cricket.

Naeem Jan 13, 2017 05:56pm

Little credit goes to najam sethi

Test Crikey Jan 14, 2017 12:30am

Sad to read the truth. Question is why so in a nation that plays only cricket. They have all the talent and knowledge. But why?

Here is my understanding: 1. Where 8 or 9 player doesn't understand English then why they have a coach who is from Australia? Australian accent is even tough to understand for a common person. 2. Imran Khan world cup winning team members: There are many team who have won the WC. I have never seen any team whose players are treated like God. Don't know where is Sanath Jayasuriya or Kaluwitharna or Sandhu.. see the hype of all those players who had been part of WC team including IK. They think they are from Mars not from Earth and so after IK, take to Akram as captain or waqar as captain or so on.. all did nothing to improve but destroyed everything. They lived with one story.. their time during WC and with IK. There bread and butter is only IK captaincy. I heard many time, Akram or Rameez or few others.. over time I sensed they have only IK saga ..

christo joseph Jan 14, 2017 01:39am

pakistan's cricket is in bad shape precisely because the country is in bad shape. I don't think the players have the same motivation and hunger for win as they see their country in destructive mode.

rana Jan 14, 2017 09:20am

@Sarai Alamgir shame on pakistani team which can not chase even 150 runs. chapel is absolutely right.

Kkl Jan 14, 2017 09:37am

Pakistan as a nation...has to look in the mirror and ask...what they are doing is right?? And they should ask that in every aspect of their policies...A nation can be built on great thought process and good sporting culture is one of the reflections of a strong nation....

Vijay,Salem Jan 14, 2017 11:08am

@GAUR There were many.Majid Khan,Moshin Khan,Zaheer Abbas,sadiq Mohammed,Inzy,Taslim arif and the list goes on.

Vijay,Salem Jan 14, 2017 11:25am

Bring more youngsters rather than keeping the older players even if they perform well.Remember even sachin tendulkar,Rahul dravid had to be forced away from the Indian team after they started struggling against quality bowlers.Country first.

junejo faheem Jan 14, 2017 11:52am

@SAIF ZULFIQAR You are 100% Right and one more interesting thing this one only happens in Pakistan

junejo faheem Jan 14, 2017 12:02pm
