The federal government on Tuesday announced that it had appointed Jameel Ahmed as a Deputy Governor at the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), a press release from the central bank said.

Jameel Ahmed, a seasoned banker with more than 26 years of banking experience, has been appointed to the post for a period of three years.

Prior to his appointment as deputy governor, he served as executive director of the Banking Supervision Group and Financial Stability at SBP. He has also served as group head of the Operations, Banking Policy & Regulations department, the Development Finance department, and for Financial Resource Management.

Ahmad is also a member of SBP's Monetary Policy Committee, a position he held as Executive Director of the Banking Supervision Group, and will continue to hold as deputy governor.

In a similar notice, SBP also announced that it had appointed Muhammad Akhtar Javed as head of the Banking Policy and Regulations Department with effect from April 10.
