KARACHI, July 29: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Tuesday visited various areas of the city during the rain and personally observed the situation.

He kept driving through the city roads and streets for an hour during which he also talked to people.

During the visit, the governor saw the traffic arrangements and issued necessary instructions to the officials concerned for taking necessary measures for providing relief to the people.

Talking to the people, the governor assured that the government was making all out efforts, with available resources, to provide relief at every level. He said President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali were taking personal interest in this respect and were in constant touch with the provincial government.

He informed that Punjab chief minister, too, had expressed his sympathies for the people of Sindh and was reaching Karachi on a visit to demonstrate solidarity with them.

Dr Ibad said that steps had been taken for shifting of rain-affected people to relief camps, while the government was working on war footing to provide relief to the people of Badin, Thatta, Tharparkar, Hyderabad and other rain-hit areas.

He pointed out that Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammed Mahar was already on a visit to the affected areas.

He informed that he had also left for a visit to Badin but could not reach there because of inclement weather, adding that he would soon visit Badin, Dadu etc.

He expressed hope that in this hour of trial joint efforts would be made by remaining above the political affiliations.

“Our first objective is to provide relief to affected persons and to take steps for their rehabilitation”, he said.—APP
