KARACHI, July 28: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Monday announced a financial assistance of Rs25 million for rain victims of Karachi, Hyderabad and Badin.

During the heavy downpour on Monday, the governor visited various parts of the city where rainwater had accumulated and traffic movement was impeded.

He expressed concern over the situation in Lyari and Malir after an aerial visit to these areas and issued instructions to officials concerned in this regard.

Governor House sources said Dr Ibad was in constant touch with Nazims of Badin, Thatta, Tharparkar, Hyderabad, Sanghar and Dadu districts.

The governor contacted Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar over telephone in Badin and consulted him on relief measures. Mr Mahar briefed him about the situation and relief steps being taken.

He also talked to President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafrullah Khan Jamali on telephone with regard to the situation arising out of the heavy rain. He apprised them of the situation, relief measures and requirements.

According to a Governor House statement, the prime minister announced a relief amount of Rs50 million.

The governor also talked to Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pevrez Ilahi who announced an amount of Rs50 million for Sindh.

On the appeal of Dr Ibad to philanthropists, the president, FPCCI, Riaz Tata, president, Karachi Stock Exchange, and other persons and organizations assured their full cooperation in relief operation.

The governor had announced the establishment of a relief fund on Sunday, with an initial amount of Rs50 million.—APP
