ISLAMABAD: Four months after Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa’s promotion and appointment as chief of the army staff, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan called on him on Friday to “felicitate” him on his new assignment.

Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations, took to the social networking site Twitter to share details of the meeting.

In a tweet on Friday night, he said: “Chairman PTI Imran Khan called on COAS. Imran Khan felicitated COAS on his prom and appointment. Various issues came under discussion.”

PTI leader Naeemul Haque confirmed the meeting, but neither he nor the ISPR chief mentioned its venue.

Mr Haque said the meeting, which lasted an hour, discussed issues relating to national and international affairs, including war against terrorism, Operation Raddul Fasaad and issue of Afghan refugees.

Gen Bajwa became the COAS on Nov 29, 2016 and the PTI chief had felicitated him over the phone then.
