KOHAT: Police busted an eight-member gang of dacoits and seized weapons in Malangabad here on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off that a group of gangsters was present at the hujra of Shahid, an alleged local facilitator, at Malangabad near Kohat-Peshawar highway, the police cordoned off the vicinity and asked the gang to surrender. The lady police and quick response force were also called for assistance.

However, after some time the alleged gang members agreed to surrender their weapons and came out with their hands raised. They included Tehmatullah, Hamid Munir, Asim, Nasir Shah, Saddam Hussain and Zubair and Afghan national Gul Bahadar, all residents of Orakzai Agency and presently living in Junglekhel, and Shahid Khan of Malangabad, Kohat.

They were taken to Junglekhel police station where a case had been registered against them. The police said that the accused were wanted in several cases.

Meanwhile, acting inspector general of police Akhtar Ali Shah urged the members of dispute resolution council to protect the weak from excesses of the powerful according to the law.

Addressing a function of the DRC at police assistant lines office here, he said that it had been made part of police training to respect the people and talk to them in a polite manner. He said that all problems of the police force would be resolved on priority.

PLANTATION: MPA Ziaullah Bangash has said that 7.5 million saplings would be planted in Kohat under the ‘billion tree tsunami’ campaign of the provincial government.

In this regard, he inaugurated a campaign by planting a sapling in the lawn of the medical college here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that trees would be planted on 17.5 hectares of land in the district.

He said that 3.2 million saplings had already been distributed and more would be made available to the community-based organisations during the spring season.
