KOHAT: A police team escaped unhurt when a group of wanted gangsters allegedly opened firing on it in Somari Bala on Bannu highway here on Wednesday.

A police statement said that a patrol team received a call about the presence of alleged gangster, Anwar Hayat, in the area. It said that when they reached the area they countered heavy firing from the other side. As a result, the front screen of the vehicle was broken. The police conducted several raids for arrest of the accused who escaped in the nearby jungle, it said.

The police have registered a case against accused Anwar Hayat and his alleged accomplices Zafar Ali, Attaullah and Ayub.

Meanwhile, unknown dacoits looted cash and gold from the house of a widow, Mst Perveen, in Muslimabad area near the Indus Highway. The police registered an FIR and have arrested some suspects for interrogation.
