Man guns down wife in suspected honour killing in Sindh

A woman was shot dead in a suspected honour killing case in Sindh's Qambar Shahdadkot district on Wednesday, police told Dawn.

Bahram Station House Officer (SHO) Meboob Ali Mithiani said that Quran Ali Chandio allegedly gunned down his 27-year-old wife using a pistol over 'honour'.

Mithiani said that the accused suspected his wife was having an affair with someone in the same village, adding that a First Information Report (FIR) for the murder has yet to be filed.

"No FIR has been registered yet. If no one comes forward to lodge the case within the next two days, we will register the FIR against the accused on behalf of the state," the SHO said.

He added that following a postmortem at a local hospital, the woman's body was handed over to her relatives.

The SHO added that the accused was at large and a search was ongoing in the area.

The police says 'an FIR will be registered in a day or two' I guess it is a good idea to give the accused murderer a head start in making good his escape.

The accused murdered his wife because he 'suspected' her of illicit relations with another man. I believe the provision of divorce is for just such situations.

Suspected honor killing? Suspected? It's always an honor killing! The husbands cannot admit to being ordinary murders. When apprehended he will be an honor killer - blaming the victim.

He will be forgiven. Honor is the most important for men and they live or die by that. Women on the other hand, do they have honor?

Murder for infidelity is atrocious enough, but murder for mere SUSPICION of it, a million times worse. What if she was completely innocent? If a spouse (either male or female) is unfaithful, the appropriate action is divorce, NOT murder!
