TOBA TEK SINGH: An ongoing water supply project is likely to begin supplying drinking water to the Toba Tek Singh city from the Trimmu Headworks (Jhang) by June this year.

Public Health and Engineering Department Executive Engineer Rafiq Saroya told reporters on Tuesday the project worth Rs815 million was approved in 2010 and was to be completed by 2013.

He said estimate of the scheme was revised to Rs850 million in 2014 and another Rs100 million was released. He said nine tubewells had been installed at the River Chenab, 35 kilometres from Toba Tek Singh, to pump water from Trimmu Headworks to the Toba Tek Singh while as many pumping stations had also been built. He said work on electricity connections and installation of electric motors would soon start and the project would be functional by June 2017 as daily 600,000 gallons will be supplied to the different water works.

CRASH: Two persons were killed and 15 others were injured when a bus hit a roadside tree near Zakirabad on Faisalabad-Multan Road on Tuesday.

Rescue 1122 personnel said the Faisalabad-to-Rahim Yar Khan bus failed to control the bus. The deceased were identified as Talib Hussain (45) and Sajida Perveen (47), both of Mandi Yazman.

Among the injured, Sharifan Bibi (38) and Amjad Siddique (60) were admitted to the Toba Tek Singh District Headquarters Hospital while Syed Kazim Hussain (50), Khalid Hussain (26), Tariq Siddiq (49), Kashif Bashir, Arif Khan (26), Naseer Akhtar (30), Wahdat Bibi (40) and Sughra Bibi (35) were admitted to the Pirmahal Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

HELD: Pirmahal police arrested on Tuesday two Afghan brothers for illegal stay in Pakistan.

Visas of both Rahimullah Khan Turk and Abdul Bari Khan Turk had expired on Jan 17 and they were arrested on Bhussi Road.
