PESHAWAR, July 26: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has urged the management of the Frontier Education Foundation to continue its struggle for achieving the target of providing quality education to the people at their doorstep.

He was presiding over a meeting of the FEF board of directors here on Saturday.

The governor said that efforts should continue to bring improvement in the infrastructure facilities, particularly the construction of new buildings, to meet the additional requirements.

The governor who is also the FEF chairman, also launched the FEF website through which all the required information about the organization would be made available online.

The meeting was informed that five new degree colleges under the auspices of FEF, one each at Nahaki in Peshawar, Sarai Naurang in Lakki Marwat, Zaida and Topi in Swabi as well as in Dera Ismail Khan city, would start functioning soon, whereas the existing FEF degree colleges in Haripur and Hayatabad, Peshawar, would get the postgraduate status in few months.

The meeting noted that the allocation for the provision of scholarships to the students of professional institutions had almost doubled, bringing the figure from Rs2.7 million in the last year to Rs5.5 million, which was expected to be doubled in the next four years.

The meeting observed that all the scholarships were merit and need based and were provided to the students through the management of their respective educational institutions to ensure transparency.

Referring to a point raised on this occasion, the governor appreciated the proposal regarding giving special awards to the students of FEF colleges on the basis of performance. However, he desired that a proper mechanism should be worked out to ensure transparency in this connection.
