Residents in Karachi's Defence and Clifton areas reported feeling tremors and hearing a loud "boom" Tuesday evening.
It is not clear what may have caused the reported sound and tremors, as Edhi and police sources had no information regarding the incident.
The United States Geological Survey did not indicate seismic activity on its graphs.

What did the Pakistan Geological Survey reveal? Was this just a sonic boom from a jet aircraft breaking the sound barrier? Went we have earthquakes items fall off shelves.

High rise structures are being built these days, without Soil Studies,we have very few Soil Scientists, the builders and architects are in hurry to build structure, and ranaway, letting dwellers to face the after affects, most of the commercial buildings in DHA are being allowed for use, without 'completion'and without water connection. As regards big don builders, they are so influential that literally they dictate the government agencies to follow their wishes. It's premature to say what exactly could be the reason, but so many times it happened in past, that during digging a plot, the adjacent commercial building got tilted or cracked. It is duty of relevant authorities not to compromise on building control regulations.

@Alba .Unfortunately Soil Science is not taught in our universities,Bangladesh has seven universities where Soil Science is taught, while India has five. It's high time to demand Soil Investigation report from builder, before allowing to built.

Probably gases building up in the oil pipeline running from port to national refinery; it used to happen ten years ago and went on for almost a year.

If it was earthquake, then the water shakes too
But it was like glass.

@Pragmatic approach Pakistan universities also teach soil sciences , Geo technical engineering is being taught by UET lahore and NUST but the labs established there are not according to international standards. and i dont think so such a sonic boom can be created by near by building construction or effect of their foundations on adjacent buildings. Good Clients always study soil with very sophisticated contractors.

@Pragmatic approach ... dear Approach sb., why is it that we must keep on comparing ourselves to India, BD, etc etc. Look at the number of high-rise buildings in those countries and then in ours.
