THIS refers to the news report ‘Balochistan cabinet decides to utilise natural resources to generate funds’ (Feb 22). Exploiting natural resources of Balochistan is vital as also authorised under the 18th amendment.

The survey of all probable sites for various natural resources like copper, gold, gypsum, coal, oil and gas must be identified.

Adequate funds must be allocated in the coming budget for exploring untapped natural resources. I also suggest to the Balochistan chief minister to assign this task to vice-chancellors of Balochistan universities and research and development institutes in the province.

Similarly, the federal government must extend financial assistance as special allocation to meet financial needs. The geological survey must form task forces to carry out exploration.

The safety of scientists and engineers involved in this business is also a major issue. The existing mining processes must be modernised so that the safety of miners is ensured.

It is hoped that benefits of the CPEC are utilised fully for the betterment of Balochistan.
