Killers of armyman arrested

GUJRANWALA, July 24: The district police claim to have arrested the killers of an army subedar and recovered illicit arms and looted goods from their possession.

This was stated by DIG Malik Muhammad Iqbal while talking to newsmen at the DPO office here on Thursday. DPO Saud Aziz and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.

The DIG said that subedar Ghazanfar Ali was shot dead by the accused during an abortive robbery bid on the Alipur Chattha Road some two weeks ago when he was on his way to Cantonment along with his colleagues by an army truck.

He said a special team of senior police officers headed by DPO Saud Aziz was inducted to trace out the killer(s). While SP (Investigation) Muhammad Zarat Kiani, Wazirabad ASP Waqar Ahmad Chohan and Ahmadnager SHO Manzoor Ahmad conducted raids on various places and arrested all the accused.

The DIG said that the arrested killers were identified as PO Saifullah, son of ring leader Mukhtar Ahmad, PO Aslam of Banki Cheema village and his lover Nasim Akhter. He revealed that the accused were the members of an inter-district gang of bandits. He said that their two accomplices — Khalid Warraich and Imtiaz Ahmad had already been killed in an encounter on Faisalabad-Lahore Road some one-and-a-half-year ago.

He said that they were wanted to police in a dozen incidents of dacoity, robbery, murder and other heinous crimes.

SUICIDE: Two young girls of Naushera Virkan committed suicide by taking poisonous pills over domestic dispute on Thursday.

Shabana quarrelled with her uncle as he got arrested her father in a property case. She died on the way to the local DHQ Hospital.

Shumaila fell out with her parents after which she swallowed poisonous pills. She was admitted to the local DHQ Hospital where she died. Their bodies were handed over to their heirs after autopsy.
