Ali, Hamid win U-18, U-14 titles

KARACHI: Brilliant Sahibzada Ali overcame stiff resistance from talented Raza Sawani to win the U-18 title here on Saturday at the Ebrahim Merchant Memorial Tennis tournament at the Karachi Gymkhana.

Meanwhile, Pakistan number one Aqeel Khan beat Ahmed Chaudhry to enter the men’s singles final after a tough contest.

In the ladies semi-finals, Ushna Sohail and Sara Mansoor set up an exciting final after beating their respective rivals with ease.

In the U-16 semi-final, Noor Mustafa beat Amin Shafi 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 to enter the final while Hamid Israr beat Asheesh Kumar 6-2, 7-6 to clinch the U-14 title in style.

Results:

U-18 final: Sahabzada Mohammad Ali bt Raza Swani 6-4, 6-4.

Men’s single semi-final: Aqeel Khan bt Ahmed Choduhry 6-2, 6-1, 6-2.

Ladies singles semi-finals: Ushna Sohail bt Isha Jawed 6-0, 6-0; Sara Mansoor bt Hania Naveed 6-1, 6-0.

U-16 semi-final: Noor Mustafa bt Amin Shafi 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

U-14 final: Hamid Israr bt Asheeesh Kumar 6-2, 7-6.

U-12 semi-final: Mahatir Mohammad bt Ashar Mir 6-4, 6-3.

U-10 semi-final: Uzair bt Zain Ehtisham 9-7.

Men’s double semi-final: Aqeel/Yasir bt Abdal/Ahmed 6-7, 6-3, 10-8; Abid/Usman bt Raza/Asad 6-3, 6-3.

45 double senior: Rasheed / Raza bt Ali Swani / Rehan 6-4, 6-0; Altaf / Humayun bt Iltifat / Jawed 6-3, 6-4; Israr Gul / Zulfiqar bt Noorullah / Qamar 6-2, 6-2.
