Wapda claim judo title

LAHORE, Dec 29: Wapda dethroned Army by winning the 15th National judo championship at Government Science College, Wahdat Road, Lahore, on Sunday.

Wapda judokas secured 35 points with five golds, three silvers and one bronze leaving behind defending champion Army in the second spot with 29 points.

Army grabbed three gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

Punjab with 13 points finished third and Police had to be content with fourth position.

Except Railways and NWFP, all the other six units affiliated with Pakistan Judo Federation, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Wapda, Army and Police took part in the two-day event.

Results:

50kgs: Talib (Wapda); Yaqoob (Army); Muhammad Akram (Punjab) and Muhammad Iqbal (Sindh).

55kgs: Sharif (Wapda); Riaz (Punjab), Ashfaq (Army) and Tariq (Sindh).

60kgs: Sharjeel (Police); Waris (Punjab); Shahzad (Wapda) and Munawar (Army).

66kgs: Zeeshan (Wapda); Munawar (Army); Ayatullah (Punjab) and Yasir (Police).

73kgs: Saeed Akhtar (Wapda); Miraj (Army); Shahbaz (Police); Naeem Butt (Punjab).

81kgs: Amjad (Army); Ashiq (Wapda); Umer Butt (Punjab) and Saleem (Sindh).

90kgs: Muzaffar (Wapda); Gulzar (Army); Saleem (Police) and Akram Ranjha (Punjab).

100kgs: Talib (Army); Shahzad (Wapda); Muhammad Ali (Police) and Zahid Butt (Punjab). Above 100kgs: Zahid (Army); Aslam (Wapda); Ghulam Abbas (Police) and Zonair Butt (Punjab).
