KARACHI, Dec 29: The Sindh chapter of Pakistan Muslim League-N has expressed grave concern over the government-MMA deal on LFO and said the people would never forgive those mutilating the Constitution and strengthening Bonapartism.

In a statement, the PML-N acting vice president, Zahid Rafiq Butt, rejected the deal saying that it had plunged the country into a deep constitutional crisis which had started with the toppling of Nawaz Sharif government in a military coup on Oct 12, 1999.

The acting chief of the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf, Sindh, Zubair Khan, has accused the government of ‘going too far’ in pleasing the Americans and leaving the people to be haunted by bomb blasts.

He urged women folk to come forward and play their due role in protecting national interests.

MNA Asadullah Bhutto of the MMA has, meanwhile, declared that the alliance’s struggle is for the supremacy of the parliament and restoration of the 1973 Constitution.

He claimed that as a result of the struggle, the 17th Constitutional Amendment Bill was presented in the National Assembly. He claimed that the Bill was aimed at ending ‘one-man rule’.

Mr Bhutto argued that by persuading Gen Musharraf to relinquish his position as army chief by a cut away date, any military interventions in the future had been made impossible, and by reducing powers of the President, the parliament’s supremacy had been established.

He was of the view that after the new amendment, democracy would bestrengthened, unemployment and price spiral would be checked and issues like Kalabagh and Greater Thal Canal would automatically be resolved.

Information Secretary of the National Peoples Party (NPP) Syed Zia Abbas welcomed the 17th amendment and said that in view of global and regional situation, it was imperative for the government to also take along the PPP and PML-N in national interest and to face future challenges.
