ISLAMABAD: Kiran Shahzadi and Iran Shahzadi won gold medals in the 25th National Men and 8th National Women Senior Judo Championships here at the Pakistan Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Army’s Kiran clinched gold in the -40kg weight category followed by Navy’s Robina (silver) while Islamabad’s Hasina and HEC’s Aiman shared the bronze medal honours.

In the -44kg category, Iran also of Army claimed gold followed by Anam of Punjab while Wapda’s Aqsa Hussain and HEC’s Rukhsana shared the bronze.

Meanwhile, men’s competitions in the -60kg category were also held. Army’s Mudassir Hussain won gold followed by Railways’ Janat Gul (silver) and Syed Samiullah of Wapda who took bronze.

During the -60kg semi-final, a controversy featuring Army and Wapda occurred as the latter claimed a point in favour of Samiullah against Mudassir. After an intense debate and scrutiny, the point was not given to Wapda.

On Tuesday, Army’s Shah Hussain Shah earned gold in the open weight category. Wapda’s Mohammad Yousuf seized silver while Salman of Police and Hamid from Navy won bronze.

In the women’s open weight contest, Fouzia Yasir of Wapda grabbed gold followed by Navy’s Fazilat (silver) while Amna of Army and HEC’s Arifa shared bronze.

In the men’s -50kg, Iftikhar Ahmed of Army claimed gold, Wapda’s Liaquat obtained silver while Hogan of the HEC and Akbar of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KP earned bronze medals.
