At least five people were killed and 15 others injured as a commuter bus overturned on Karachi's National Highway.

The passenger bus was travelling from Karachi to Badin when its brakes failed and the tyre-rod broke down. As a result, the bus overturned near Sassi Toll Plaza.

The injured have been transferred to Karachi's Jinnah Hospital, rescue officials said.

The bus was completely damaged and had to be taken apart to recover bodies after the accident.

Pakistan has one of the world’s worst records for fatal traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.

In recent years, the country has witnessed a sharp rise in the number of such deadly accidents.
