KARACHI: The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has announced to form a basketball team in addition to holding an all-Pakistan tournament in due course of time.

“The institution will raise a strong outfit of the game besides sponsoring a national level competition during the year,” chief of the bank’s sports division Ovais Asad Khan told a gathering after inaugurating refurbished Arambagh basketball court on Friday evening.

The face lift, that includes paints of the court, seating enclosure, office, etc has been carried out by the bank at a cost of Rs250,000.

An individual, who chose anonymity, has donated two glass boards for scoring.

Amidst applause, he said he will revive the basketball team in the bank that once used to be among the top outfits of the country. Unfortunately, the team was disbanded long ago.

Continuing, he said, the facility of a basketball court will soon be added to the NBP Sports Complex at Clifton.

He assured to continue his support to the game in future also.

Earlier, accompanied by the president of Karachi Basketball Association Ghulam Mohammad and secretary, Tariq Hussain, he unveiled a plaque to mark renovation of one of the oldest facility of the game in the city. An exhibition match was also played on the occasion.
