KARACHI, Dec 27: Judge Arshad Noor Khan of Anti-terrorism Court (ATC-III), on Saturday, adjourned the hearing of kidnapping and killing case of a school boy after deposition of two prosecution witnesses.

Accused Waqar Ali Shamsi and Muhammad Arshad are facing trial on charge of their alleged involvement in kidnapping and killing of Hafiz Omer (16), a student of Class X, on Sept 16, 2003.

Prosecution witnesses Abdul Sattar, who is uncle of the victim, and Maqbool Ahmed, the owner of house where the body of abductee was found, recorded their statements on Saturday. Both the witnesses identified the accused before the court.

Abdul Sattar said that the accused Waqar had confessed his guilt when he was arrested and pointed out the house, where he along with co-accused made his brother hostage and killed him. Maqbool Ahmed said that he rented the house to absconding accused Raja and Waqar in July 2003 and he saw the accused along with the victim before the incident.

The court fixed Jan 5, 2004 for deposition of further prosecution witnesses.

According to the prosecution, Waqar, who was also the friend of Hafiz Omer, took him from his house in Khyaban-i-Bukhari, Defence, to the house of absconding accused Raja in Mehmoodabad. He made Omer hostage and demanded three million rupees from abductee’s family. Later, Omer was killed.

Police arrested the accused on suspicion and during interrogation he disclosed the said incident. —PPI
