KARACHI, Jan 2: The KESC on Wednesday disconnected the power supply of the KWSB’s 9th-mile offices complex, residential colony and workshop, situated on Sharae Faisal, on account of non-payment of electricity dues.

The complex houses important offices belonging to the KWSB’s managing director, deputy managing director (technical services), chief engineers and superintending engineers of bulk supply, water, sewerage, electrical and mechanical supply, officials of K-3 project and directorate of public relations, pump house and a workshop.

Describing the KESC’s act of disconnecting power supply of the KWSB’s offices as ‘unwise’ and ‘hasty’, the KWSB’s managing director, Brig Mohammad Behram Khan, said that at a time when the country was passing through a critical period there was a dire need for all organisations to mutually cooperate with each other for ensuring uninterrupted supply of basic facilities.

A spokesman for the KWSB said that the KESC’s act of disconnecting the power to the KWSB’s offices and water installations on the basis of ‘wrong’ and ‘excessive billing’ might lead to a complete stoppage of water supply to the city and could also cause irreparable damage to sensitive installations, including those belonging to defence.

Quoting the officials, he said that it was since Brig Behram took over the charge of the KWSB’s managing director, the Board had been paying Rs1.2 billion annually to the KESC under the head of electricity charges.
