LARKANA: The North Sindh Urban Services Corporation (NSUSC) has stopped its operations in Larkana and Shikarpur. An announcement to this effect was made by Mayor Mohammed Aslam Shaikh while presiding over the Tuesday session of the Larkana Municipal Corporation.

He told the house that the NSUSC managing director would be visiting Larkana on Wednesday to hand over the machinery and equipment currently in the use of the civic utility to the municipal corporation. He quoted NSUSC managers as telling him that the utility had closed its operations in both cities.

The mayor said that the NSUSC on Tuesday fired 250 sanitary workers engaged by it on daily-wage basis. He said more funds would be sought from the Sindh government to run the pumping stations, machinery and equipment etc as the LMC was facing financial constraints.

The house gave its approval to the municipal commissioner’s proposal seeking immediate recruitment of 470 sanitary workers.
