KOHAT: Rising incidents of armed robberies in posh localities of Kohat have created a sense of insecurity among the residents during last couple of days.

Two armed motorcyclists barged into a PCO on the OTS Road here and robbed the owner, Haya Khan Shinwari, of Rs90,000 cash, mobile phone cards worth Rs30,000 and a phone set with easy load balance of Rs30,000 the other day. They also took away Rs43,000 and Rs3000 cash and a mobile set from his friends, Noman Ali Shah and Mohammad Hamid who were sitting with him at the time of robbery.

In another case, unknown men made away with a battery of a generator, water taps and lights from a mosque in Junglekhel. The cantonment and Junglekhel police registered cases against the unknown culprits and have arrested some suspicious persons for interrogation.

A few days ago, armed robbers had looted Rs17,000 cash from a staffer of a medicine company in the KDA Town.

Taking notice of the robbery cases, district police officer Javed Iqbal has suspended the SHOs Nazar Abbas and Sajjad Haider of Junglekhel and KDA Town, respectively. A notification issued here on Wednesday said that the suspended officials had been replaced by Qismat Khan and Hameed Khan and asked to trace the robbers.

ROAD MISHAPS: Two people were killed and 22 others injured in separate road accidents here on Wednesday. A Karak-bound coach (KT-2895) coming from Rawalpindi collided with a loaded tractor near Bilitang. Both the vehicles overturned after the accident.

According to police, Javed Iqbal and Abdul Majid, both residents of Karak, died on the spot while the injured were taken to the KDA hospital. The police have registered a case against the drivers. Also, seven people were injured in another accident involving a car and coaster near the Friendship Tunnel who were taken to the nearby hospital. The traffic was restored after the tunnel staff removed both the vehicles from the road.

MURDER CASE: The city police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested three suspects for killing a young man in the name of honour.

City police station SHO Tahir Nawaz told a press conference that one Shahid, son of Tariq, was killed in Khwa Garhi on Tuesday last. He said that the police had arrested Mohammad Dildar, Samiullah and Hakeem Din, all neighbours of the victim. Mr Nawaz said that the suspects had confessed to the murder in the name of honour. He quoted them as alleging that Shahid would tease their women. The police also recovered a pistol allegedly used in the crime and have registered a case against them.
