Illegal kidney trade

Published January 24, 2017

ACCORDING to the Sinsh Institute of Urology Transplant report, more than 50,000 people die annually owing to kidney failure. Recently, SIUT exposed the illegal kidney trade which has been proliferating significantly.

This inhuman act does not only bring misery to people but also maligns the country’s name outside.

Efforts made by Dawn newspaper are appreciable for exposing the racket bravely. There are two reasons behind this.

First, people sell their kidneys because of financial constraints. This is mostly found in backward areas. People are unaware of health issues.

They believe that one kidney is enough for survival. They suffer a lot once the kidney is removed.

Second, it cannot be operated without the help of doctors, as well as of middlemen.

Both play with the lives of people for earning a meagre amount. Although assemblies have passed a law, it has borne no fruitful results as yet because of their poor implementation.

The government must keep an eye on elements who run this business.
