MULTAN, Oct 3: District Nazims of 12 southern districts assembled here on Wednesday to deliberate upon the pace of devolution and issues concerning the district governments.

Multan district Nazim Shah Mahmood Qureshi presided over the meeting.

The participants of the meeting were Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood (Rahim Yar Khan), Chaudhry Tariq Basheer Cheema (Bahawalpur), Rai Hasan Nawaz (Sahiwal), Ali Akbar Vance (Bahawalnagar), Mian Muhammad Amjad Joiya (Pakpattan), Sahibzada Hameed Sultan (Jhang), Chaudhry Ishfaq Ahmad (Toba Tek Singh), Abdur Rahman Kanju (Lodhran), Malik Sultan Mahmood Hinjra (Muzaffargarh), Sardar Shahabuddin Sehar (Leiah) and Sardar Ahmad Yar Hiraj (Khanewal).

Nazims of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, Jamal Leghari and Hafeez Dreshak, respectively, could not attend the meeting reportedly on account of their meeting scheduled on Wednesday with senior military officials monitoring the affairs of Dera Ghazi Khan division. The learned Supreme Court has quashed the results of election for district Nazim in Vehari distict.

The meeting discussed financial matters, the police reforms ordinance, cotton prices, suspension of Haj flights from Multan and Faisalabad, law and order situation and setting up of district Zakat committees.

The next meeting would be held in Bahawalpur in the first week of November.
