KARACHI: Iranian Consul General in the city Mehdi Subhani, accompanied by commercial and economic consular Hamid Reza Nazrati and commercial attaché Murad Naimati, called on Mayor Waseem Akhtar at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation building here on Tuesday.

Mr Akhtar briefed the visitors regarding the development projects planned for the city and said that efforts were being made to make the metropolis a modern city.

Earlier, Mr Subhani said the Iranian government was providing assistance and cooperation to Pakistan in the health and education sectors and many welfare works were being carried out in various cities of the province, including Larkana and Nawabshah.

He said Iran and Pakistan were brotherly neighbouring countries and Mashhad and Karachi had been declared twin cities in the past.

He invited the mayor to visit Mashhad and Tehran to see the working of the municipal system there.
