Pakistan to export medical doctors to Saudi Arabia

The attached department of Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) would send abroad the medical doctors to Saudi Arabia this month.

Talking to APP on Wednesday, OEC Managing Director Perveez Ahmed Janjua said that the corporation will organise walk-in interview for the selection of consultants, specialists and resident doctors for Ministry of Health, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on January 14 to 15 in Karachi.

A delegation of Ministry of Health Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will visit to Pakistan and required doctors for different region including Asir, Baha and Bisha regions.

They required the services of doctors as consultant, specialists and resident in internal medicine, paediatric, general surgery, orthopaedic, family medicine, anaesthesia, radiology and others.

To a question, he said that salary and other terms and conditions will be settled at the time of interview.

Since Saudi Arabia is benefitting by trained and experienced Medical Staff, it is only fair that Saudi Arabia should contribute in $$$ to finance the operation / upgrade the Medical Training Institutions. This will also be a win win situation for Saudi Arabia, as they will get highly trained staff.

Its a very good news for pakistani doctors to work in Saudi Arabia and help the brotherly country in their healthcare field. We have a number of top medical colleges in the country and their standard of education is in par with international schools. I have noted that number of Pakistani doctors working in the US send their children to medical schools in Pakistan because of their high standard of education. I hope their compensation package is in line with doctors in other countries.

Another brain drain by the rich from poor countries like pakistan, where these doctors are not paid enough and are desperately needed to work in hinterlands ie remote and undeveloped areas of pakistan , where they are needed the most.

Doctors please first check the cost of living in Saudi Arabia and then accept the contracts. Do not just convert saudi royals to Pakistan rupees.

Our own medical services are beset with problems, including a shortage of doctors in various disciplines. Can we then really afford to officially export our doctors overseas?

Before sending doctors to Saudi Arabia, Pakistan should make sure they get paid, because Saudi government dosent believe in paying salary to Pakistani, so many people who worked in Saudi Arabia was not paid and no body took responsibility

Excellent! Our doctors are really true doctors and therefore they are always in demand in overseas. Saudia is doing big favour to Pakistan by giving jobs here to confused doctors. otherwise saudia is more aligned with India. But that is for more high end technology. Most probably the more skilled specialists will be hired from India. and basic physicians from Pakistan

Doctors want to serve their community but the circumstances force them to leave the country. Everywhere in the world the health sector is given importance and the health providers are the main pillars of focus but the opposite is true here. A common man does not understand their problems. The long duty hours, sleepless nights and financial constraints affect their family and social life badly which perhaps many do not have an idea. The brain drain should be stopped and proper planning be devised to make it happen.

I am working as consultant in Riyadh KSA, it is an opportunity, how ever please make sure you understand what is offered,what will be place of posting which they never comit, main thing is if you have govt. job take one year leave ( sebatian ) , do not jump in, if you do not settle you can return back comfortably and no regrets, every body wants big cities which is not the case all times.

Cuba has most doctors per 1000 people in the world~ 5.6/1000. Europeans aim for 3-4/1000. Saudi's have ~2.5 / 1000. We have 0.74/1000 and still thinking about exporting them. No wonder our healthcare facilities are in shambles. It costs nation ~ 4-5 million RS To train a doctor. ? For him to abroad and serve others. In Pakistan they are on strike every other day. Govt is unable to develop a policy Re this issue as they are too busy buying flats in London.
