RAWALPINDI: The police are searching for an imposter who called and asked the vice chancellor of the Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) while posing as the commissioner of Rawalpindi.

A complaint was lodged by FJWU director security Fiaz Ahmed with the Civil Lines police on Thursday, according to which the university’s vice chancellor received a call on her mobile phone, with the caller introducing himself as the Rawalpindi commissioner who said he wanted to visit the university in order to review the security measures put in place.

He said the caller had said he will check the walk-through gates and other security measures and directed her to transfer Rs10,000 to him.

The matter was brought into the notice of the police after which it was revealed that the caller was an imposter and that no such call had been made officially.

The in-charge of Tariqabad police chowki, Chaudhry Naveed, who is leading the investigation into the case, said that the police will soon arrest the imposter as they have obtained his mobile phone data.Preliminary investigations suggest the call was made from outside the city.
