PESHAWAR: The second edition of the Asghar Khan National Amateur Golf Championship starts here at the PAF Golf Club Course on Friday.

This was stated by PAF Golf Club secretary Group Captain Mohammad Abu Bakr while addressing a press conference here at the club premises on Thursday.

He said that all arrangements for holding the three-day championship, named after former chief of the air staff PAF legendary Asghar Khan, had been completed.

“The championship which is an annual feature of the golfing calendar of the Pakistan Golf Federation, leading amateurs of the country, including players of the national teams, will also participate,” the official added.

He said top amateur golfers from all across the country will be coming to Peshawar to take part in the prestigious event.

Pakistan No.1 and member of the national team Taimur Naseer will defend his title.

Other golfers to compete in the championship include Ghazanfar Mehmood, Inayat­ullah Yousufzai, Pervez Khan, Asfandiyar, ex-national team member Tariq Mehmood, Rehmatullah and Ehsan Elahi.

The championship, he said, will be inaugurated by Air Vice Marshal Shams Athar, Air Officer Commanding, Northern Air Command on Friday.

More than 150 golfers from all over the country including top amateurs will compete for the trophy, Abu Bakr added.

The three-day event will be staged over 54 holes with each participant playing 18 holes each day. The categories to be contested at the championship include amateur, senior amateur, ladies and boys U-14 and U-17.
