KARACHI: The Sindh transport minister has lauded the Iranian consul general in the city for offering assistance in various transport-related projects and offering to provide 200 modern buses to improve public transport in the city.

He was speaking to Consul General of Iran Mehdi Subhani who, along with a delegation, met him in his office on Thursday.

According to a statement issued here, Sindh Transport Minister Nasir Shah said that provision of a modern transport system to the people was a priority of the government and work was under way on various projects in this regard.

He said currently various development projects worth billions of rupees, including the Green Line and the Edhi Line buses, formerly known as Orange Line, were being implemented and after the completion of these projects people would feel a considerable improvement in the transport system.

He said the government was also planning to provide better transport facilities on subsidised rates in the interior of the province by providing latest and modern intercity buses so that people of smaller towns also get better transport.

Earlier, Iranian diplomat Mehdi Subhani offered Iran’s assistance in bringing about improvement to the transport system and offered 200 modern buses to solve the transport crisis in the city.

He also invited the minister to bring along officials of the transport department to Iran on an exposure visit to witness the modern urban transport system operating in Tehran.
