Apropos a news item “Initial report says PK-661’s left engine malfunctioned” appearing in Dawn on Dec 9, the CAA on Friday said that it had not issued any such report. The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) only issued the statement regarding communication between the pilot and the control tower about the failure of the left engine and Mayday call.
The report carried by Dawn was based on the initial report prepared by a team of officials concerned with aviation matters. The report’s copy is available with Dawn.
According to the PCAA statement, the official inquiry into the accident is undertaken by the Safety Investigation Board, which is an independent body reporting directly to the Aviation Division, Islamabad.
All investigations, formalities and procedures pertaining to the crash of PK-661 would be undertaken solely by the SIB which is independent of the PCAA.
