KARACHI: A suspect was shot dead in an ‘encounter’ in the early hours of Friday morning in PIB Colony, police said.

The police conducted a raid at ‘Karnal Basti’ near Jhanday Shah Qabristan on information about the presence of suspects. It led to an exchange of fire, resulting in injuries to one suspect, identified as Imran, alias Decoration Wala. He died while being taken to hospital, said PIB SHO Safdar Mashwani.

The other suspects, identified as Sharifullah, alias Kaki, Azmat Bajori, Anwar, alias Rao Anwar, Ali Hasan, alias Allati, Shahid, Nomi and Amir, escaped.

The officer claimed that the killed suspect was involved in a recent grenade attack on a police checkpoint in the same area. Besides, he was wanted in 17 heinous crimes. The killed suspect was a ‘gangster’ belonging to the Darvesh gang linked with Uzair Baloch.

The police claimed to have seized a TT pistol from his custody.
