a KARACHI, Dec 18: Adviser to the Chief Minister on Local Bodies and Special Development Waseem Akhtar has directed the Local Government Commission to complete all inquiries pending with it.

Mr Akhtar, who is also chairman of the commission, was presiding over its meeting here on Thursday.

Besides other senior officers, the meeting was attended by Saleem Khan (additional chief secretary, Local Government), Abdul Hafeez Soomro, Hameedul Zaffar and Haji Munawar Abbasi.

The adviser was informed that the account of the Nazim of UC-8, Jatline (Jamshed Town) had been frozen. He was also informed that the Nazim of UC-13, North Karachi, and his secretary were not cooperating in furthering an inquiry.

The commission has decided to complete the proceedings in the light of available facts in case they failed to ensure their presence within the next 10 days, the meeting was told.

A detailed account of inquiries and resultant actions was given to the Adviser.

Mr Akhtar asked the commission members to ensure impartiality in the inquiries in order to strengthen the new system.—APP
