LAHORE: Advocate General of Punjab Shakilur Rehman Khan on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that 90pc of the children kidnapped in various parts of the province had been recovered.

Submitting a report on progress in investigation of the child-kidnap cases, he further told a two-judge bench that the element of vital body organs’ sale behind the incidents was not true.

During the hearing, Mirpur’s Senior Civil Judge Yousaf Haroon complained that his son had been missing for many months. On court’s query, a police officer of Rawalpindi said steps were being taken for the recovery of the judge’s son.

The bench headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar made the AGP’s report part of the case and adjourned further hearing till next month.

The court had taken suo motu notice on July 26 against the increasing incidents of children kidnapping in the province. A helpline had also been established at the office of the advocate general for lodging complaints.

directive to UHS: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday directed the University of Health Sciences (UHS) to take supplementary examinations of students of the Sahara Medical College established by singer Ibrarul Haq.

The counsel for the college told the court that the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and the UHS were victimising the college and not entertaining admission of its students for the supplementary examinations.

The lawyer pointed out that the respondent authorities nurtured a grudge against the college after it obtained orders from the court in the past in favour of its registration and students’ admissions.

Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza directed the UHS to entertain admission of the college students for supplementary examinations and disposed of the petition.
