PESHAWAR: Residents of Dalazak Road here on Friday held a demonstration against the local police for torturing their women and children during ‘illegal’ raids on their houses, and demanded action against the cops.

The protesting inhabitants of Mohmadzai area led by former MPA Akhtar Ali were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans against officials of Chamkani police station. The infuriated residents also chanted slogans against the police highhandedness against innocent people.

Talking to media persons on the occasion, a protester alleged that Chamkani SHO Ghaffar Khan at the behest of SP Rural Furqan Khan started illegal raids on the houses of innocent and peaceful citizens, and harassed children and women for no faults of theirs.

Former lawmaker Akhtar Ali alleged that on Thursday last SHO Ghaffar Khan along with constables raided houses in different localities without any reason or having any court orders. He also alleged that police tortured women and children and took away valuable items with them.

The protesters demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and inspector general of police to take notice of police highhandedness and bring the responsible persons to justice.
