KARACHI, Dec 16: Delay in the issuance of admission list for Honours classes after the release of a revised list for admissions to Masters classes by the University of Karachi is adding to the doubts of faculty, parents and candidates aspiring to get admissions at varsity.

The University of Karachi has recently announced that the Honours admission list will be displayed on Dec 18 instead of the earlier announced date of Dec 15. Accommodation of candidates, who were awarded “grace marks” to pass their intermediate exams is the only “excuse” presented by the KU admission committee for delaying admission process although candidates having less than 45 percent marks in intermediate are not eligible to apply for admissions at the varsity.

The university had also postponed the interviews of candidates, short-listed for admissions at Karachi University Business School (KUBS) while giving the same argument of “grace marks”.

A KU faculty member requesting anonymity revealed that some MPAs of ruling coalition in Sindh were intervening into admission process at the varsity and KU admission committee was being pressurized to accommodate students violating the merit.

Some student groups also criticized the delay in issuance of admission lists and said that transparency of admission process was being jeopardized.

Meanwhile, Registrar Karachi University Dr Fahimuddin announced here on Tuesday that interviews of the candidates for admissions to BBA (Hons) will be held on Dec 18 at 10am.

The list of the eligible candidates had been put on display at the notice board of the department, he added.—PPI/APP
