MINGORA: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) here on Thursday claimed to have arrested a high-profile militant here.

According to the CTD police, Malakand division, following a tip-off they apprehended a militant, Ali Mohammad, in Mingora. The militant, reportedly, is a resident of Kalakot village in Matta tehsil. The police said that Ali Mohammad was wanted to the law-enforcement agencies for his alleged involvement in anti-state activities during militancy in Swat.

He was reportedly the key person involved in anti-state activities. “He had torched three primary schools at Kalakot area of Matta tehsil,” said the CTD police. He was shifted to an undisclosed location for further interrogation.

Meanwhile, Swat and Shangla sports officer Mohammad Saqlain in a press release invited players of cricket, football, hockey, basketball, squash, badminton, table tennis, athletics, baseball and handball from the two districts for trials for the Under-23 games for men and women scheduled in Dec 2016.

It stated that the trials would be conducted under open competition for which the players must bring their Form-B or identity cards so as to confirm their age.

The KP Under-23 Games would be played on the inter-district level in Swat in the first phase while the winner teams would participate in the inter-regional games in Peshawar in Dec 2017.
