ISLAMABAD: An important meeting of the Pakistan Peoples Party planned for Tuesday in Dubai has been postponed because of the death of the party’s senior leader, Jahangir Badar.
The meeting, convened by PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, is now likely to be held by the end of this week.
“The meeting has been postponed because of three days’ mourning announced by the party chief on the death of Jahangir Badar,” PPP spokesman Senator Farhatullah Babar told Dawn on Monday.
He said no new date had so far been announced for the meeting.
“I believe the meeting will now be held by the end of this week,” he added.
Mr Babar said the meeting would focus on reorganisation of the PPP and all regional and provincial heads of the party had been summoned to Dubai for the purpose.
“The meeting will also discuss the possibility of early elections because of Panamagate investigation against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family,” he said.
Sources said the party chief would also seek recommendations from the party’s regional and provincial presidents about its agitation campaign against the government.
